In the beginning, Epick hid behind an mpc2000xl and began crafting beats from old records he collected.  Making beats became his life and any spare time was spent making music or listening to music.  Aside from the obvious influences of old school artists like Rakim, Masta Ace, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, De La Soul, Tribe and all things Stretch and Bob, Epick was always a big fan of rock, soul and folk music – Bill Withers, Otis Redding, Van Morrison and James Taylor also helped to shape Epick’s sound.

Epick collaborated on a record in 2000 and a few songs were featured on Ecko Unlimited’s “Rhino Drops Vol. 2″ mix tape.   Epick began sending his ‘beats’ to companies hoping they would be utilized in videos or advertisements.  As a result, Epick’s beats have been used by Burton Snowboards, Sprite, Marc Ecko Enterprises and Complex among others. Epick also became more interested in songwriting and began working with a rap group, Vaporworldz and released a mix tape and an album. He then released an independent EP in 2008 entitled, “Six Inches of Skill” and two songs from the EP were used by Honda in separate campaigns. Epick also co-wrote and produced 3 jingles for Honda used in TV commercials and on radio, one of which (Lonely Gas Man) got picked up in two markets. In 2008 Epick was featured in a comedy improv web show called “Turtleneck for Volcom’s” on the website “http://Stoneyour.tv.  After releasing his EP, Epick began to perform in the NYC area with a 7-piece band called the “Motherfuckers.”

The experience Epick gained through performing has been invaluable and he has learned to add a very ‘live element’ to his shows.  In late 2010 he released a single, “I Don’t Mind” featuring a very gifted and beautiful singer/songwriter, Elle King.  Epick filmed an innovative music video with clever animation by Jonah Oskow for the song where Epick interacts with puppets.
