Innsbruck Records is proud to announce upcoming performances with Mika Yoshida, Steve Gadd, Eddie Gomez and Stefan Karlsson at NYC’s hip jazz club, DROM, on August 31st and September 1st. Upon the group’s return from a Japan tour sponsored by The Blue Note in Tokyo, they will settle in for four performances at DROM.  There will be 2 shows per night (7:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.)

Mika’s Bio

Mika Yoshida is a New York City-based marimbist who hails from Amakusa Island, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. She studied at the University of Toronto and since graduation has devoted herself to marimba performance and musical studies under the strong influence of the NEXUS.  She also studies jazz privately with jazz vibe master, Mike Mainieri, in New York.

She has released two Solo CDs:  ‘Mitsue’ (1998) and ‘Marimba Phase’ (2003).  Her newly released album, ”Mikarimba” (VideoArt Music Japan 2010) and DVD ”Mika Marimba Madness” (Big Round Music) were both produced by Steve Gadd.  Steve Reich’s CD “Triple Quartet” includes Mika’s arrangement and performance of “Tokyo/Vermont Counterpoint” (Nonesuch), Richard Stoltzman’s CD “Goldberg Variation” (BMG Japan) and Jo Hisaishi’s CD (Universal Japan).  She has performed solo recitals in New York (Carnegie ZANKEL Hall 2007 and Carnegie Weill Recital Hall 2001, 2004), Tokyo (2001, 2003, 2006) etc. as well as several cities around the world.

Drom is located at 85 Avenue A between 5th St. and 6th St. in the East Vilage / Lower East Side section of Manhattan in New York City. The club accommodates a seated crowd of 150 in plush accommodations and a standing crowd of 350. Drom features live performances six nights a week with late night DJs and bands until 4am. Drom’s full-service bar features specialty cocktails while the kitchen offers Turkish and Mediterranean tapas.  For table reservations, please call 212-777-1157.
